In February a new record has been set for SAS Category B approvals at 739 for the month.
The SAS category B: application pathway is the most common way patients are currently accessing medicinal cannabis. The Special Access Scheme (SAS) refers to arrangements put in place by the TGA which provides for the importation and/or supply of an unapproved therapeutic good. Applications must be reviewed and approved by the TGA before medicinal cannabis can be supplied.
At Cannadoc we take of the whole process (only practitioners can submit applications) and applications are usually approved by the TGA within 2 days or less. Should medicinal cannabis be appropriate for you we will submit your application within 24 hours after your appointment.
As seen on the Victorian Department of Jobs, Precincts and Resources website (https://djpr.vic.gov.au/medicinal-cannabis-in-victoria) the government recently released it four year medicinal cannabis industry plan. The plan outlines eight key actions for government to facilitate the development of the new medicinal cannabis industry.
A noted benefit of the plan includes increasing clinicians’ confidence to prescribe medicinal cannabis (where they assess this it be clinically appropriate) by developing guidance and education materials for practitioners.
Very exciting and well done Vic Gov! If you want to check out the plan itself you can view it here:
